Ain’t she the sweetest thing?

Try this with your granddaughter-

Weekend adventures with grandkids.  I just had to do it!  Yup, just had to…  You see, I was caught between two great events – holding my granddaughter or watching football.  Then the question came to mind – has my ‘little precious one’ been introduced to the fine art of watching football with papa?

The question seemed to hang in the air as play after play sequenced to my satisfaction, even for preseason football.  Would my little girl grow up to understand the difference between a tight end and a split end?  Would she discern between an end sweep and a quick burst up-the-middle?  These questions and more had to be answered – so I did it.  Yup, just had to.  I propped up the precious little one who is almost perfect in every way into the cradle of my left arm – so I could still cheer on my team with my right arm, you know, so little Laura Beth could learn the appropriate timing and reflex with gusto!

She stared in fascination at the bright colors and fast moving shapes on the screen.  Then it happened.  She smiled and leaned back into my arm with a soft but distinct ‘coo’ sound.  See?  Watching football with papa is a good thing for her proper development.  Next task is teaching her how to swing her arm and fist and yell in unison with papa – Go Packers!

Second part of weekend with grandkids

What a fun time.  Have you ever tried this?

Weekend adventures with grandkids.  My grandson, now a busy four, ‘discovered’ the wonders of a squirt gun this weekend.  He carefully mastered the fine art of dipping the gun into the wading pool and let it bubble until full.  Then he carefully reattached the end plug and let his imagination take over.

I was quick to notice his propensity to aim the quick jet of water toward the safety of my lawn swing.  Needing to distract his steady eye and careful aim, I pointed up and directed him to shoot it straight up, then stand still as the jet of water fell back down on him.  “Go ahead – shoot the breeze!”

Darling little Ella, now a watchful five, figured out my plan in a second.  Taking her squirt gun she stood with her brother in action pose.  “See papa, I can ‘shoot the breeze’ too!”

For the balance of the morning as they played in the backyard, the squirt guns returned to focus in another ‘shoot the breeze’ session.  Who knows, maybe this will prepare them for long social engagements in some backyard of the future where they’ll be able and equipped to ‘shoot the breeze’ with wild abandon.

A weekend with grandkids

Does this ring a bell with you?

Blog for 8-27-2012

Weekend adventures with grandkids!  My grandson David, now a busy four, discovered pinch style clothes pins this weekend while playing in papa’s backyard.  First, the metal spring fascinated him as he worked the spring open and shut in quick pace.  Then the moment of discovery as he noticed the pinching end could be applied to a variety of purposes, just begging for his imagination to open as well.

It did.  Within minutes, the pinch end ended up on his tongue.  The surprised look in his pinched face told of his response and instant recovery.  Next the pinching end moved in process from tongue to bottom lip, to nose, to ear, then ended up on his tiny finger which seemed an acceptable pain level for a moment as he soon had four fingers ‘snapped’ with clothes pins.  Proud of his achievement, he ran across the yard waving his pinned fingers for me to see.

His acceptance of pain faded rapidly as the pins flew off in obvious relief.  His imagination, however, wasn’t pinched shut.  The clothes pins arrived at new locations throughout the backyard as his thoughts and actions dictated, finally ending up needing to be washed in the wading pool and spread out on the grass to dry.  His brand new squirt gun came into play, serving a new purpose as he paced the long rows and ‘rinsed’ the pins several times for good measure.

His squirt gun became the next source of amusement in adventure two – how to ‘shoot the breeze’!

So sad for America, how about you?

So sad for America, how about you?.

Blog for 8-8-12

So sad in my heart and soul for America.  Copied the latest list of best selling fiction from Nielson Booklist.  So sad then to find man’s ‘wisdom’ drawn to porn and every evil way, to indeed find the ‘top ten’ as darkness upon man.  I can’t bring my fingers to key the names here so as to not exalt darkness for it is shame to America.

I’m not that surprised I suppose but reading the list both in book form and audio books takes me back to my backyard in spring of 2008.  For in my backyard, on that old lawn swing when I was recovering from a massive change in my life, that God placed an urging in my heart and soul, to write for Him, to speak out in that writing against all forms of wickedness in high places such as this ‘top ten list’, to rip away the thin veil of deceit purposely laid with evil intent to draw man away from Truth.

So my writing is this empowered by His Word in 1 John 1:5.  And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.

So my characters fight and speak out against evil in all forms not in their own strength but in His name against legion of darkness seeking to oppose His Way using stories from scripture placed in modern day settings to expose the basic fight of mankind, of His Good vs. evil.

This morning I found my Bible reading drawn to story of Queen Esther and how evil found opportunity to seek to destroy Jews from the earth.  Then how God used a beautiful young woman and faithful old man to step out in faith, putting His Way above themselves in faith.  Can we do any other?

I’m reminded of this daily from scripture and as I learn the business part of writing.  How to take that which is given and place it in form that God may use as he did in our example if that is His Will.  How God used an attractive woman and wise old man to accomplish His purpose that my writing be used as well for His purpose, to expose evil of every sort in direct conflict to the ‘top ten’ list.  This is my goal to write a separate content worthy of a ‘top ten’ standing but in Spirit and Truth rather than evil so that the world may know, and knowing, turn from darkness to His Truth.

Christian writer, hold to the course God gives you, stepping ahead in faith, as men and women of old set as example.  Who knows, before the Lord, what you place in market might be just the exact Word someone needs to read to halt them from darkness.  God bless you this day, amen.
